China has unveiled a new realistic, interactive and stunningly attractive humanoid robot on Friday, a creation by the University of Science and Technology of China in Anhui Province’s Hefei. Called, Jia Jia, the robot is said to be capable of human-like facial expressions, along with talking and interacting with people nearby.

But Xiaoping’s robot goddess doesn’t seem like it will be used in any competitions. The team from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) has taken care of every minute detail that will make her look less like the soulless, complex lump of metal that she is (This one even has eyebrows). And later on, when gawping journalists get up close with their cameras, it jokes: “The photos taken from your angle will make my face look bigger”. He eventually wants her to become a “robot goddess”.

According to Engadget, Jia Jia is programmed for basic interactions but also has sensors to determine where humans are located in relation to her presence.

Its navigation is coordinated by an autonomous positioning system. Also, more facial expression recognition data shall be coded into here so that she’s able to interact with humans on a more deeper level. The team is working on teaching Jia Jia to cry and laugh.

What do you think about USTC’s latest interactive robot? The robot appears incredibly lifelike as she is programmed to move her lips in unison with her speech while making micro-expressions for added realism.

Xiaoping said, “We hope to develop the robot so it has deep learning abilities”.
