He’ll continue pushing himself to inspire new runners – and he probably already has, having appeared in an ad for the Champion sportwear brand – and “to keep this really positive dynamic of accepting I can do the same things just with different conditions”, he said.

The marathon is scheduled to fire off at 9 a.m. ET from the starting line just over the Staten Island side of the Verrazano Bridge. Then the majority of the race will take place between Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan, before looping around in the Bronx and then wrapping up back in Manhattan and down the stretch at the West 68th street parallel inside the southwest corner of Central Park. (“I think that she is the best person now to continue what Obama has done the last eight years.”) And he challenged an Italian reporter who implied that the pizza in her country bested the pies of New York.

A few famous participants include a few notable retired athletes.

In addition to Lee in the convertible, several other celebrities will be at this year’s marathon, running: the retired professional tennis player James Blake, Katrina Bowden (formerly Cerie on “30 Rock”), Ethan Hawke, the soprano Susanna Phillips (who will be singing the national anthem before running the course), and Alicia Keys.

These days, she runs with a group of friends in the early morning hours, and on weekends, puts in a long run.
