Kelly interjected, bringing up the tweets chastising her as a bimbo.

In an interview that premiered on FOX Tuesday night, Kelly confronted Trump over the name calling.

Noting that Kelly was the one who called him to set up the olive branch meeting, Trump said, “I have great respect for you that you were able to call me and say, ‘Let’s get together, let’s talk'”.

Mr Trump escalated the feud over Twitter for months.

The sit-down was the pair’s first in public since the Republican debate in Cleveland last August, when Kelly grilled him about making sexist comments.

Trump claimed that if he attacked others, it was in response to something that they had done to deserve his ire.

The interview comes as Trump has effectively wrapped up the Republican presidential nomination and is turning his attention toward an expected general election battle against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.

Kelly responded that it wasn’t just supporters who Trump retweeted.

Trump said he felt it had not been fair, before Kelly jumped in: “You know, it’s not a cocktail party”, she said. He also offered up a half-hearted apology for retweeting a tweet that compared his wife’s appearance to his opponent Ted Cruz’s wife.

TRUMP: “Well, I’m a real person”.

But he largely defended his attacks as counter-punching and “not bullying”. You got the highest ratings in the history of cable television, 24 million people. “Okay? And I try to un-wound myself”. “Now, I then respond times maybe 10, I don’t know. I then respond pretty strongly”.

But he appeared to hint that their feud could re-ignite someday. “You wait to see what happens”.

At night, Trump personally tweets.

The relationship only worsened from there.

The Republican presidential candidate went on to tell Megyn Kelly of FOX News she had been called a lot worse. He unleashed screeds about her “dopey lies” and how her show was better when she was on vacation. Trump also called for a boycott of her show.

In late January, Trump directed multiple retweets towards Kelly, including an image of her posing seductively.
