In honor of “Willy Wonka” star Gene Wilder, select Regal Entertainment Group and AMC Theaters locations will host screenings of “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” as well as other Wilder hits.
He then brought up the pair’s first major work together on the 1968 satire film The Producers, which Wilder starred in as Leo Bloom, one of the two lead roles. Watch to the end for some delightful tidbits about their process for casting Young Frankenstein and Madeline Kahn ad-libbing on the set.
Yesterday, we lost legend Gene Wilder to complications from Alzheimer’s disease, and fans everywhere mourned.
Mel Brooks, who directed Wilder in a trio of classic comedies – The Producers, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein – called the actor “one of the truly great talents of our time”.
He worked closely with Jewish director Mel Brooks.
“Miracle of miracles”, Brooks did find the backing and visited Wilder backstage of a play he was doing called “Luv”.
Gene Wilder made more than enough iconic films to cement his legacy.
When Coldplay took the stage in Denver Monday night, just hours after news broke about the death of Gene Wilder, the band found the flawless way to honor the beloved star. “Yeah, you’re going to get the money, ‘” Brooks said, noting Wilder’s sarcasm.
Ostrum also told The Hollywood Reporter that Wilder was a “great teacher” who treated him with “respect, like a fellow actor”.
It’s a bittersweet segment, but in light of Wilder’s passing, it’s nice to see the 90-year-old Brooks looking as sharp and spry as ever.

Also while on Fallon, Brooks recalled his childhood in Brooklyn. We’re gonna make the movie. He held his face and cried. “He blessed every film we did with his magic & he blessed me with his friendship”, he tweeted after learning about the death. “It was a wonderful moment”, the Oscar victor recalled.
