It’s been some time since we’ve heard about Mel Gibson’s next directorial project, HACKSAW RIDGE, so allow me to bring you up to speed.

“Hacksaw Ridge” focuses on Desmond Doss, the first Conscientious Objector in American history to be awarded the Medal of Honor. Howell, a non-commissioned officer from Alabama whose job is to make sure the soldiers are ready for battle.
His most recent film – Unfinished Business – was not, to put it kindly, well received, and he’s scoring some divisive reactions for his work on this season of True Detective.
“The movie is quite inspirational – it’s about a man who wouldn’t touch a weapon and yet wanted to be part of saving lives in the worst place on earth”.
“Okinawa was a horrific place, where, I think, more life was lost in that Pacific battle than any other Pacific battle – and they were all bad”.
The film will star Vince Vaughan and Atavar and Terminator star Sam Worthington, the latter also from Australia. “There were over 300,000 casualties, mostly civilian, which is really sad”.
With extensive night shooting expected, outdoor locations in western Sydney under consideration include Penrith Lakes, Eastern Creek and Potts Hill.
It will be Gibson’s first directing effort since the critically acclaimed Apocalypto in 2006.

Alongside Gibson, there are a number of Australians in the key cast and crew working on Hacksaw Ridge, including writer Andrew Knight, who has overhauled the original script by Robert Schenkkan.
