During World War II, an army medic named Desmond Doss went to war, enlisting but refusing to carry a weapon because he believed that killing another human being was immoral.

Many thought that after his last set of outbursts a few years ago, Mel Gibson had blown it so badly that he’d never be allowed on a film set again. Whether the film will be as divisive as Gibson’s retelling of the gospels The Passion of the Christ (2004) remains to be seen.

Andrew Knight, Robert Schenkkan and Randall Wallace – who also worked with Gibson on Bravehart – wrote Hacksaw Ridge’s screenplay.

At the very least, it looks like an interesting story and the cast of characters – Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn and Teresa Palmer – look like they’re capable of working together.

Hacksaw Ridge tells the true story of an American soldier who fought in Okinawa during WWII with no weapon and still saved the lives of 75 men. Doss was the first conscientious objector awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. The film will be released on November 4.
