Melania Trump’s speechwriter admits mistake, offers resignation
A Trump staffer apologized Wednesday for using remarks by Michelle Obama in a speech delivered by Melania Trump at the Republican National Convention that ignited a deeply embarrassing plagiarism row. Trump read McIver passages from Obama’s speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention, and McIver included the phrases.

McIver, co-author of some of Donald Trump’s books, said she offered to resign but the Republican nominee for president refused to accept her resignation.
Melania Trump’s speechwriter admitted to her role in the Michelle Obama plagiarism scandal today, but said her bosses have already forgiven her for the “innocent mistake”. That was my mistake, and I feel awful for the chaos I have caused Melania and the Trumps, as well as to Mrs. Obama. “No harm was meant”, she wrote.
Manafort on Wednesday agreed Melania Trump’s speech used “similar words” to Obama’s and insisted, “I’m not lying about anything”.
“While he can be extremely volatile in both public and private and prone to dismissing top lieutenants and shaking up his high command, Trump has deep affection discreet longtime lower-tier employees like McIver who have devoted themselves to him”.
Not that crazy-in a letter notably written on letterhead identifying her as an employee of the Trump Organization, which, under federal law, can not lend a campaign its resources, speechwriter Meredith McIver admitted the two worked together to crib Michelle Obama’s words.
Ms Trump’s speech on Monday night caused uproar when critics pointed out similarities to a speech made by Michelle Obama in 2008.
Portman will attend the convention, but has a very busy schedule of events outside the Q during convention week, claiming he is running his own campaign without relying on Trump’s presence at the top of the ticket.
“The media is spending more time doing a forensic analysis of Melania’s speech than the Federal Bureau of Investigation spent on Hillary’s emails”, Trump wrote. I certainly think that is possible.
She apologized for “the confusion and hysteria my mistake has caused”.
The ad then shifts away from a cryptic criticism of Donald Trump, and begins to look a lot like Kasich’s announcement to run again in 2020.
McIver started at the Trump Organization in 2001, according to her profile on the website of a booking agency called the All American Speakers Bureau. Some Republicans believe firmly Clinton should be prosecuted for mishandling classified material during her time as secretary of state, Manafort said.
Well, of course they didn’t fire her… if she did in fact write the speech, Meredith effectively distracted EVERYONE from the fact that neither Trump came close to even touching upon any actual politics on Day One of the RNC.
