Melbourne is the world’s most liveable city, again
Out of the 140 cities surveyed, Melbourne is followed by Vienna in second place with three Canadian cities – Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary – close behind, all of which have held on to their titles from past year.

Despite its record high property prices and traffic issues, Auckland has been ranked the world’s eighth best city in the latest liveability rankings released by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
“Sydney, for example, has fallen by four places, to move out of the ten most liveable cities, owing to a heightened perceived threat of terrorism”, the report said.
The global liveability survey gave cities a rating which represents the challenges they present to lifestyle of people living there.
The EIU index scores 140 of the world’s major cities in healthcare, education, stability, culture, environment and infrastructure. Melbourne secured ideal ratings for healthcare, education and infrastructure. Third, fourth and fifth went to three Canadian cities, Vancouver, Toronto and Calagary respectively. The city slipped from the top 10 most liveable cities this year.
Even cities in the top tier are being touched by an increase in violence and global instability.
Melbourne’s mayor, Robert Doyle, said retaining the title for the sixth year in a row was a fantastic accolade and that the city did not take the title for granted. Thirty factors across health care, safety, education, environment, culture and infrastructure were analysed using data and surveys.
Mr Doyle said the City of Melbourne would continue to work with all levels of government to ensure Melbourne remained a great place to live.
“The decline is largely a result of heightened fears over terrorism with more than 1,000 reported attacks in 2016 so far, with incidents in France, Turkey, the USA and Belgium being the most high profile”, The Economist’s report said.
