Melissa Benoist Explains Why ‘Supergirl’ Is Feminist On ‘The Late Show With

Essentially, Supergirl had a tremendous premiere, and a lot of people in the demographic that networks are particularly interested in reaching were watching. With a stellar cast, engaging plot, and solid pilot, the series is off to an unbelievable start!

“Supergirl” Season 1 Episode 1 aired in CBS on October 26 while Episode 2 “Stronger Together” is set to air on November 2.

Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc./CBS The series about Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, also stars Mehcad Brooks. She lives in National City and works at a huge publication called Catco. with Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) who is her boss.

Colbert then showed off a photo Melissa posted to her Instagram, of her in full hero attire, posing with a few cape-wearing girl scouts. After many years of being trapped there Kara breaks free somehow and makes it to Earth but she finds out that the boy is now a man and no longer needs her protection.

Zor-El is also known as the biological cousin of Superman.

As introduced in the “Supergirl” premiere, there was an alien prison from Krypton that crash-landed on Earth and those prisoners have escaped, so those will be a few of the villains that Kara will be facing.

One of those prisoners, Lumberjack, actually comes after Kara in the very first episode. Naturally, she soars to the rescue, and this heroic mission turns out to be a great big rush for Kara. SO instead of becoming a hero she decides to just be normal and fit in. And Supergirl saves the day! Kara’s aunt seems to be in charge of these criminals, and she doesn’t care if she has to kill her niece in order to get what she wants.

She’s also working alongside photographer James Olden (yes, James), who Grant just hired away from The Daily Planet. The characters even internally address the external debate over whether labelling Kara Supergirl instead of Superwoman is demeaning to her abilities. She reminded me a little too much of Miranda Priestly, the character Meryl Streep played in the film “The Devil Wears Prada”; but the second viewing of her character in action wasn’t quite as jarring.

“I love supermarkets, I love grocery shopping, I love the produce aisle because to be super you have to be healthy, and I would probably stock up on all the fruit”, she grinned to Glamour.com.
