Current Sony chairman Tom Rothman was similarly hopeful, saying at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Saturday that initial backlash against the remake has been “great” for publicity. Producer Amy Pascal says the newly revived franchise will be “endless”, which of course is the goal of pretty much every mainstream blockbuster franchise these days.

“He said, ‘We all jumped up and applauded at the end.’ He said he was nervous at the beginning and then they soon relaxed when they saw how well it was going and how much fun the movie is”.

Otherwise my least favourite aspect of the film was a string of awkward cameos which detracted from the freshness of this new film in favour of fawning nostalgia.
