Melissa McCarthy Showed Batman V Superman Who’s The Boss

At the domestic box office, two consecutive weeks of significant drops for Batman V Superman has many forecasters thinking that Deadpool’s stratospheric $380 million at the domestic box office might be out of reach for the DC team-up epic, but a massive opening weekend and the popularity of Superman and Batman as global entertainment icons have given the film nearly $500 million internationally already.

4th UPDATE, Sunday 12:30AM: When Universal executives wake up Sunday morning, they’ll likely have something to crow about: Melissa McCarthy’s The Boss appears to have elbowed Warner Bros. Despite poor reviews and word of mouth, “Batman v Superman” has earned an estimated $296.7 million to date.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 came in at fourth on $6.4 million, taking its total to $46.7 million. With Batman V Superman failing to cross the billion-dollar mark, some wonder how the first Justice League film ever will perform.

Although “The Boss” opened lower than earlier McCarthy outings such as “Identity Thief” and “Spy”, it managed to surpass the $21.6 million debut of 2014’s “Tammy”, which, like “The Boss”, was directed by McCarthy’s husband, Ben Falcone. “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”, $23.4 million; 3. We know that we will get a three-hour rated-R Ultimate Edition Blu-ray in the very near future, and saw a small snippet of what was cut when a deleted scene was released by the studio.

Melissa McCarthy’s latest movie success beats Batman to number one.

Not only does The Boss rate only an average critical score of 40 on MetaCritic.com – below even Batman v Superman’s 44 – but that’s still a better score than almost half her films. Fellow religion-themed drama God’s Not Dead 2 fell 43% after a weak opening to an estimated $4.3M for a cume of $14.1M for Pure Flix.

Rumors are that Warner Bros. executives are waiting to see how Justice League: Part 1 is received before stepping in to make creative changes, such as removing Zack Snyder. Not a lot to say here, STX took a chance (read $10 million) on a small independent action flick and it didn’t pay off as well as they were maybe hoping it would.
