Melo Trimble’s three helps Maryland escape Wisconsin with win

Third-ranked Maryland looks to stay undefeated in Big Ten play when it travels to Madison to face Wisconsin on Saturday. He hit a 3, scored a fastbreak layup off a Robert Carter steal, converted a sensational driving layup and hit another 3 to go on a personal 10-1 run to give Maryland its biggest lead of the game at 56-48.

Melo Trimble watched the clock wind down before hitting the game-winning three with 1.2 seconds left, as the Terps were able to complete their 15th win in 16 games and improve to 4-0 in conference play. Wisconsin got a combined 22 points from Nigel Hayes and Ethan Happ in the first half.

The talented sophomore guard’s three-pointer nullified an admirable comeback attempt by the Badgers, who were down by eight with 90 seconds left in the game.

Jordan Woodard scored 19 points and Khadeem Lattin added 10 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks for the Sooners (13-1, 2-1 Big 12).

It’s the fifth time this season that the Badgers have lost by two points or less. Wisconsin native Diamond Stone came off the bench to score 11 for Maryland, who is off to their best start in school history at 15-1. Koenig opened for a three, and the Badgers had a chance late against one of the best teams in the conference and the country. The 6-foot-11 McDonald’s All-American and four-time state champion endured all sorts of vitriol from Wisconsin fans irate that he chose Maryland over the Badgers last spring.
