Memory Lane: San Diego Chargers vs. Minnesota Vikings

Sure, it’s just preseason, but a win’s a win. CBS Sports pointed out that Bridgewater “connected with No. 1 wideout Stefon Diggs all five times he threw the ball Diggs’ way, for 71 of those 161 yards”. The Vikings look and smell like a very good football team, one capable of a Super Bowl run, deep at almost every position. The Vikings will face the San Diego Chargers in a preseason game Sunday, the first for the team at their new stadium. The Minnesota Vikings will be playing in their new stadium, as the franchise moved into U.S. Bank Stadium for the 2016 National Football League regular season.

An hour before an otherwise meaningless preseason game, enthusiastic Minnesota Vikings fans streamed into the commons park outside the new U.S. Bank Stadium ahead of the venue’s National Football League debut. The seventh-year veteran is expected to play for the first time at Jacksonville, an important step toward building chemistry with quarterback Andy Dalton.

“The shoulder’s feeling great”, Bridgewater said.

The Vikings gave fans plenty to be excited about in their debut at U.S. Bank Stadium. He connected with first-round pick Will Fuller on a 26-yard touchdown pass that extended Houston’s lead to 24-10 before sitting down with about three minutes left in the first half.

Vikings: WR Laquon Treadwell made a tricky catch on a fade route in the corner of the end zone on a 2-point conversion pass from Shaun Hill.

Bridgewater picked up 22 yards on the third-down play and let defenders know they have to be better prepared to tackle him in the open field.

For the offensive line it was a source of frustration that needed to be remedied.

On the field, Zimmer lauded the play of Bridgewater, was pleased to see the Vikings run for 122 yards, and generally liked the play of the defense. Sullivan had started the first two preseason games. When a defensive gaffe led to a 39-yard touchdown run by Melvin Gordon of the Chargers, the Vikings trailed 7-6 despite dominating most of the action to that point.

“It’s a attractive place”, coach Mike Zimmer said, as purple-clad fans watched his postgame press conference from a lounge area the team walks through to reach the field.

“Hope I don’t get any question about (Bridgewater’s) arm, ” he said in his opening remarks after the game.

The Jaguars will be closely watching left tackle Kelvin Beachum, playing his first game since tearing the ACL in his left knee last October.
