Auburn fell short of expectations in the regular season, but the players showed up against Memphis. Auburn ranks 73rd nationally against the pass, giving up 232.2 yards a game through the air.

A blocked field goal against Memphis, no missed kicks on its end and a couple of great punt returns made special teams another X-factor in this game that Auburn dominated. In full, Auburn emerged with the 31-10 victory.
Memphis really should be able to move the ball. The offense spluttered with turnovers, bad trick plays, and questionable play calls.
Straight out of the second half, it looked like Memphis remembered how its offense worked and drove down the field.
Carlton Davis jumped in front of the intended target Mose Frazier on the play and tipped the ball to Matthews. Teams will likely be calling the Titans about that top pick if they wind up getting it, just to make sure they are able to secure the services of Lynch, who has the makeup of a franchise quarterback. He then pushes himself away and runs across the field and into the tunnel.
Once he broke away Ball apparently ran away from Auburn staff, delivering one final message – the middle finger. A big gain on the ground by Johnson up the middle started things off. A few Jovon Robinson runs and the Tigers were in the redzone again. The Auburn defensive pass rush and offensive line just took over and imposed their will in the second half of a game that was knotted at 10 at the half.
The quarterback situation is a mess at Auburn, so defending the pass wasn’t a tall task for Memphis. He was selected most valuable player of the bowl game.
MEMPHIS Lynch has passed for a school-record 3,670 yards and 28 touchdowns with just 3 interceptions.
Auburn wasted an early 10-0 lead thanks to a disastrous offensive stretch that included three interceptions on four drives.
Memphis didn’t give up, though.
The Tigers from Alabama had other plans. Memphis is 8-21 after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game. Wow, what a game. Memphis had a good season but went on a three game losing streak towards the end of the season. Devaroe Lawrence was an absolute beast in the middle. Even as an SEC team, they shouldn’t be favored over Memphis.
Originating with the yards per carry data, the higher value offense is Auburn by.1.
In the second half, White was replaced in spots by Jeremy Johnson.
He threw one pass the whole game. That’s not a joke.

Ray and his teammates celebrated a victory that gave the Tigers a 7-6 record and their first bowl victory in Gus Malzahn’s third season as their head coach. Auburn is 22-15-2 all-time in bowl games, but is without a win since 2011.
