Prosecutors say Mendeecees Harris, a 37-year-old native of the Bronx, will head to jail for just over eight years after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin and 500 grams or more of cocaine.
The Democrat & Chronicle reports Harris was sentenced Tuesday to serve 97 months in federal prison and he’ll also forfeit his TV money, which has totaled more than $170,000 to date. Donald Thompson, who represents Harris in court, revealed that the judge recognized Harris’ efforts to encourage the youth to steer clear of drug trafficking activities since his arrest. After her husband’s sentence was announced, Smith took to Instagram, sharing photos and videos of her man.
In a tweet posted on the VH1 website, Smith thanked followers for their support. He wrote, “I want you all to understand something”.
She said: ‘You have no idea how much your love and encouragement means. Harris took to social media to address the news, informing fans that he had accepted responsibility for his part in the crime and how he expected to come out a better man because of it. “My transition to be a better person a productive person started well before this case”.
At the sentencing, dozens of letters written by kids and young men from one program were presented that stated how Harris’ presentation about his life helped them decide to avoid going down a path of trouble.
