Mercedes widened the C-Class coupe significantly in moving to the C63 AMG model.

It also trumps the RS5, M4 and RC-F by 44kW and whopping 270Nm, 58kW and 150Nm and 24kW and 170Nm respectively, making the new C63 S the most powerful rear-wheel drive auto in its class. This positions the twin turbochargers within the V of the engine block and cylinder heads, helping to squeeze the substantial power unit under the bonnet of the relatively compact vehicle. It goes up to 290 kph with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.

The latest official teaser image shows the standard C-Class coupe along with the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe partially obscured by clever photo editing.

The body will feature widely flared fenders, LED headlights, and a panoramic sunroof. The previous model ran on 235mm front and 255mm tyres.

Inside looks to be pure C-Class – not a bad thing at all – with the addition a number of AMG-specific controls, AMG badges and the option of Performance seats for extra support.

Tweaks over the saloon and estate that can’t be seen include a “completely newly developed” rear axle with new carriers, stiff elastokinematic tuning more negative camber. This will allow the driver to accelerate out of corners earlier thanks to improved traction.

The C63 coupe uses a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 paired with the brand’s seven-speed Speedshift automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Top speed for the standard C63 is 155mph with the S version reaching 180mph.

Carmagazine reports that the AMG C63 has four driving modes, ranging from Eco to Sport+, with an individual setting.

AMG Ride Control is present, offering three different levels of suspension, ranging from soft and comfortable to sporty and less forgiving. The C63 S is an in-house development from Affalterbach.

Unfortunately, the details we can’t dive into are the prices, which have not been announced yet.

A short but sharp video preview of the new AMG C63 Coupe…

“The new C63 Coupe embodies our concept of progress”, says Tobias Moers, the chairman of the board of management of Mercedes-AMG.

In order to accommodate bigger wheels and tires, the C63’s track was widened by 64mm at the front and 66mm at the back.
