Mercedes shows 2017 E-Class interior ahead of Detroit debut

Yes, there are two massive display screens just like there are in the S-Class, but do remember that this is only something you’ll find in the higher-range E-Class variants. AMG Line and Exclusive models receive a brand new widescreen digital instrument cluster display comprising two 12.3-inch screens. During this year the company has opened 14 dealerships and one more, the 15th one, will be opened by the end of December. The shape of the lights appears to be the same with the ones equipped in the present S-Class, but the bulbs within it somehow indicate a new design. These feature touch-sensitive, mouse-like buttons – an automotive first, says Mercedes-Benz – that allow the driver to scroll through the functions by running a finger over the top and pushing it to select the chosen command.

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class comes with a fresh steering wheel and fresh dashboard trim levels. It is based on the concept of “contemporary luxury” and is created to be spacious and technologically innovative.

Controlling those screens are two touch-control buttons integrated into the spokes of the multifunction steering wheel – a first-ever feature in a vehicle, according to Mercedes. Mercedes also had an app for the European market that listed fuel prices underneath local gas stations – such a thing would be neat to have in the Canadian market, as an E-Class “knows” whether it’s meant to be filled with gasoline or diesel. One major change is the addition of solid buttons to activate essential driver assistance systems, which used to be a whole song and dance of diving deep into the Distronic Plus menu through the instrument cluster’s screen. There will also be an optional touchpad so passengers can simply write down their requests or inputs, then the auto will read them back so the driver can confirm their accuracy. These use tiny, irregular reflectors in the lenses of the tail lamps to warp the glow of the LED in new and odd directions. It adds touches of light, for example, to the trim parts, central display, front stowage facility on the centre console, handle recesses, door pockets, front and rear footwells, overhead console, mirror triangle and tweeters. Other noteworthy features include LED ambient lighting with 64 color options and optional Burmester surround sound system.
