Merkel aide: We’ll do everything to conclude U.S. trade deal
Several French and German ministers echoed the statement, citing United States unwillingness to compromise.

French President Francois Hollande, for example, indicated earlier this year that France would “never accept questioning essential principles for our agriculture, our culture”. “These discussions can not result in an agreement by the end of the year”.
Also the former U.S. Secretary of State, Mrs. Clinton said she was “not in favor” of the deal now being discussed by 12 countries on the Pacific Rim, including the U.S. and Japan, but not China.
One of the problems of the deal lies in the U.S. attitude towards the negotiations, he said.
In a tweet, Fekl said “France demands the cessation of negotiations #TAFTA #TTIP”. “This is not how allies should be negotiating”.
Brussels and Washington are still at odds over several critical issues at current stage although both sides are committed to concluding the deal by the end of this year before US President Barack Obama leaves office in January.
France will make this case at a meeting of foreign trade ministers in Bratislava in September, Fekl added.
Gabriel, who also leads his country’s Social Democrats, has expressed doubts about TTIP in the past.
Critics of Gabriel’s comments have also pointed out that while members of the SPD are skeptical about the TTIP, the German Government remains strongly supportive of the proposed agreement, with Chancellor Angela Merkel having publicly backed the negotiations recently.
He believes the agreements that are endlessly negotiated in secret, end up helping large businesses. “Nothing is moving forward”, he said.
Gabriel’s ministry isn’t directly involved in the negotiations with Washington because trade agreements are negotiated at the European Union level.
“The talks with the USA have de facto failed because we Europeans of course must not succumb to American demands”, he told public broadcaster ZDF.
Another motivation “was just to try to boost economic growth in Europe, which has been pretty sluggish coming out of the great recession”, he says.
The deal still has backing in some quarters, however, with a number of European Union officials speaking out in support of it. Italy’s Economic Development Minister Carlo Calenda said in an interview with Corriere della Sera that talks will require many more months.
“TTIP will be sealed”. “We have to carry on”. The Commission leads talks with the USA for the EU.
TTIP could be a warning of what’s to come for the United Kingdom and trade relationships with the USA and EU.

Critics claim that TTIP is unsafe as it could place the interest of global corporations above those of the nations they operate in, and undermine European standards for labor and environmental protections.

Figures were eventually even produced by the Ministry of Industry and Trade that around one percent of GDP, or around 900 million dollars a year, could be the maximal Czech benefit from the deal it the most ambitious version was signed and realized.
