Merrick Garland picked over Sri Srinivasan as Obama’s US Supreme Court nominee
Martin, who has been adamant about President Obama nominating a Black woman to the Supreme Court, asked Jarrett why a Black woman was not nominated and reminded Jarrett of the support Mr. Obama has received from African-American women over the course of his tenure as president.

The Senate’s No. 2 Republican tried Thursday to shut down speculation that GOP leaders might hold a confirmation vote on Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland during a “lame duck” session of Congress between the November election and the inauguration of a new president in January.
Soon after Justice Antonin Scalia died last month, Senate Republicans said that they’d not be considering anyone nominated by Obama.
On the same day that Senate Republicans announced President Obama’s Supreme Court nomination would not be receiving a senate hearing, Texas Sen.
“I feel I would want to explain my position to the nominee”, said Ms. Ayotte. When it comes to our nation’s highest court the American people are entitled to justice instead of party politics & temper tantrums from politicians who’d rather let the next president fill the seat.
But they did have a say – when they elected Mr. Obama to a second four-year term.
With the issue coloring this fall’s contests for control of the White House and Senate, Democrats have spent weeks trying to link Senate GOP resistance to a court nominee to opposition also voiced by Donald Trump, the Republican presidential front-runner abhorred by many Republican leaders.
And President Obama knew they would, but nominated him anyway. “Give the people a voice in filling this vacancy”.
According to Foundation President Kayla Moore, Garland’s confirmation would ensure a Leftist majority on the Court for the foreseeable future.
Srinivasan, 49, and Garland, 63, serve together on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
An appointee of President Bill Clinton, Garland is a graduate of Harvard and Harvard Law School. McConnell said the President did it “not with the intent of seeing the nominee confirmed, but in order to politicise it for the goal of the election”. On the other hand, some Republican Senators are looking at Garland’s moderate and bipartisan record and saying to themselves, “it could be worse”.
A view of the U.S. Supreme Court building is seen in Washington, October 13, 2015. Obama’s nominee could move the court to the left for the first time in decades.
“Republican leaders have said they believe the American people should have a say”, Obama said on the call.
