Troy Merritt shot a tournament-record, 10-under-par 61 early in Saturday’s third round of the Quicken Loans National – and the only player to catch him was Kevin Chappell, who owns a home in Kirkland.

Chappell had a 67.

Ishikawa started his bogey-free 63 at the tenth tee, and after a string of pars made five consecutive birdies from the 14th to 18th hole before picking up a further shot at the first.

Japan’s Ryo Ishikawa, who led by one after the second round, shot a 71 and was tied for eighth at 11-under along with Briton Justin Rose (65), Carl Pettersson of Sweden (64) and American Bill Haas (64). He capped off his front nine in style on the par-three ninth by dropping a 42-foot birdie putt, leaving the crowd roaring in delight. “I made my share on my back nine and especially that bomb on eight”.

“The big thing is we put ourselves in contention”, Merritt said.

Roll it in, man. Then move on to the 12th – except that Tiger’s concentration light flickered, and the ball banged off the rim of the hole and came back to him.

David Lingmerth, enjoying a breakout season thanks to his victory at the Memorial, made five birdies on his final nine holes for a 65. He added a two-putt birdie on the par-5 fifth before his dramatics on 8. “Got to keep the pedal down tomorrow”.

Fowler’s up-and-down final round included five bogeys and seven birdies. Each has his lone pro win in a developmental tour event and has a PGA runner-up finish, Merritt last year at Memphis and Chappell at the 2011 Texas Open and 2013 Memorial. I found a little bit of something on the putting green.

“I’m starting to pump the ball out there again and I know my loft of my irons are very weak compared to today’s standards, ” he said. “But as long as I’m still in the running to win the championship, I’m going to go for it”.

TURNBERRY, Scotland – There’s a Ko atop the leaderboard after three rounds of the Women’s British Open.

Just not the one many were expecting.

“Hit the ball really well”, Woods said. “We’re working well. She trusts my numbers”. Second-round leader Suzann Pettersen is a stroke behind their 8-under total of 208 after shooting 72. Park is bidding to complete a career Grand Slam.

“Basically it was a fight all day”, he said. “You’re just reacting. That’s all it was”. “2, 4 (from a whopping 70’9”) and 6 to offset bogey at the par-4 third. Fowler missed four greens in regulation and saved par only once.

“I’ve got years ahead of me”.

Ko is playing in Scotland for the first time and has been shocked by the weather conditions.

The tournament was postponed in March after a round because of rain and high wind.

His post-round theme was one of “grinding it out” as he desperately sought some inspiration throughout the third round, only to find that quality in short measure as he battled hard to restrict his score to no worse than a 74.

The 30th-ranked Lu shot 69, too, and was also chasing a first major title.

Merritt had 11 birdies and a bogey.
