Mertesacker feels Arsenal must improve
Kieran Gibbs volleyed home the 24,000th goal in Premier League history just four minutes after appearing from the bench to earn Arsenal a point in the north London derby.

Despite his delight at scoring only his second Premier League goal, the England full-back was frustrated his side did not take advantage of Manchester City’s goalless draw against Aston Villa to reclaim top spot in the Premier League table.
Danny Rose’s deep ball down the left flank went straight between Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny and Kane slid the ball past goalkeeper Petr Cech, rather than hesitating as he was prone to doing earlier in the season. “Yes we should have won but I feel very proud of the players”.
“It’s not an easy system to play in, I can tell you from personal experience that it’s not easy training every day”.
“That is why with injuries we suffer a bit, but I’m convinced that after the worldwide break we will have more options and therefore more confidence”.
The Gunners – thumped 5-1 at Bayern Munich in their midweek Champions League tie – had to come from behind after Harry Kane fired the industrious visitors into a deserved first-half lead.
Per Mertesacker has praised the “great character” in the Arsenal squad after they battled back from a goal down to claim a 1-1 draw with north London rivals Tottenham on Sunday.
“We have shown character because we were a bit on the ropes and we responded”, said Wenger, who revealed midfielder Santi Cazorla had been suffering from dizziness during the first half and had to be substituted during the interval.
‘The energy and creativity those players who come on give sets the tone and gives us goals.
“We played three matches in six days and we have always one day less to recover”, Pochettino said. “We need to follow this, to continue working hard and try to win the next games ahead”.
“We played very well”.
Both sides created decent opportunities during a frantic start to proceedings but it was the hosts who had settled better of the two and looked the more likely to break the deadlock inside the first 20 minutes.

“We’re in a great position at the moment and we’ve played a lot of tough teams”.
