Meryl Streep, JJ Abrams team for TV adaptation of ‘The Nix’

So it is, that Streep is likely to lead a TV adaptation of breakout Nathan Hill satire The Nix, as directed and produced by none other than Abrams himself.

The three-time Oscar victor, who hasn’t been on a television show since 2012’s Web Therapy, is nearing a deal to star in a TV series based on The Nix, a 2016 novel by Nathan Hill.

Streep will presumably, as Vulture predicts, be playing Faye Anderson-Anderson, an ex-hippie protestor who experiences a moment in the spotlight of contemporary virality when she throws rocks at a Republican presidential candidate. Abrams will executive produce with Bad Robot, but is expected to direct “at least some” of the episodes.

No network is attached and there isn’t even a writer yet, but something tells me that once Streep officially signs on, those things will come together fairly quickly. She becomes the centre of controversy for committing an absurd crime, and Samuel must delve back into her secretive past to try to save her.

Streep was last seen on the big screen in Florence Foster Jenkins and will next star in Mary Poppins Returns. Her TV credits include Web Therapy and the miniseries Angels in America.
