Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick, while Luis Suarez contributed with a brace to the scoreline as the Bhoys suffered their worst defeat in European club competition.

“But you can’t be too downhearted”.

Neymar got the goal his superb display warranted early in the second half, fizzing a free kick beyond Celtic’s helpless goalkeeper Dorus de Vries.

“There can be no embarrassment because they have done it to better teams than us”.

“Their front three are exceptional – their movement, their vision, their calmness on the ball – but we need to defend better from the front, midfield and the back”.

“I don’t think the players were spooked by the occasion”.

Arkadiusz Milik then scored two headers as Napoli came from behind to beat Dynamo Kyiv 2-1 on Tuesday.

The Brazilian continued gushing about his strike partners, “We are not playing for ourselves, nobody is looking for personal glory”.

“Apart from the foul in the first half which resulted in a penalty, we didn’t commit any errors in the game”.

Iniesta, on as a half-time substitute, got Barca’s fourth as he hammered a volley high into the net following Neymar’s pinpoint cross, and Messi completed his hat-trick one minute later, turning home from inside the six-yard box after Suarez had cut the ball back into his path.

“The three of us together we do a great job”, Neymar told reporters on Thursday. “Everyone is disappointed in that changing room”.

Beaten by the torrential rain in north-west England, group rivals Manchester City and Borussia Moenchengladbach were surely impressed by what they saw from Spain.

There really was no stopping Barcelona at the Camp Nou and Celtic manager Rodgers realises that. “All we can hope is that they keep scoring like that”, added the Spaniard. We didn’t do well enough on the ball.

While Rodgers has enjoyed an encouraging start domestically, winning Manager of the Month for August in the Scottish Premiership before defeating Rangers 5-1 in the first Old Firm tussle of the season at the weekend, he has already endured some hard assignments in continental competition.

Brown hinted that harsh words were spoken at half time, saying: “What happens in the dressing room stays in the dressing room”.

He also pledged that Celtic would recover and get better as he looked ahead to the remaining five Group C games in the Champions League.

But while frustrated with his own team’s display, Brown says there is no shame in losing to the team he feels is the best on the planet.
