Similar warnings are also in place for Co Durham and Newcastle upon Tyne for today and tomorrow, where winds are expected to reach 48mph.
“Indeed severe gales with gusts to 60mph could bring a short period of blizzard conditions to the highest routes later Friday evening and overnight”.
Forecasters warned: “Wintry showers will spread to many northern areas in particular and night frosts will become much more widespread”.
The rest of eastern England will be prone to blustery wet and wintry conditions into Saturday – with sleety snow across hill tops that is unlikely to settle.
“The snow turning showery through the day with sleet, hail and snow showers running down the east coast of England and to Wales Friday evening and night”.
However, the cold snap will pass and Sussex temperatures could be back in double figures by Tuesday (November 24).
“Snow is likely even to parts of the south and to lower levels with accumulations likely with the added risk of strong winds on Friday night”.
“We will be updating warnings fort snow”.
As Arctic winds sweep across the country Met forecasters predicted 3-10C daytime maximums tomorrow (Fri) and 3-7C at the weekend – 12C colder than last week.
However, the start of next week will feel slightly milder, as the winds pick up more of a westerly component, but it will be rather unsettled again with several areas of low pressure spreading in.

However, it will be felt more keenly due to the remarkably mild weather we’ve had this month. “Monday, mainly dry and bright but still feeling cold”. “Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow at times with sleet and snow likely at lower levels”.
