‘Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’ On Limbo After Kojima Productions

In a ‘slip up, ‘ online retailer Newegg posted that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be bundled with NVIDIA GPUs and that Arkham Knight is getting the boot. These two versions will be released across Europe and North and South America, in English, German, Italian, French, and Spanish languages.

Some, like the Kotaku network, feel as though this action is offensive as it discredits designers, programmers, producers, artists, sound designers, QA testers, and other developers that worked on “Metal Gear Solid 5″.

Their argument relies on the concept that, until press is told otherwise, Konami owns the entire Kojima Productions studio.

The “Metal Gear Solid” video game series have sold 41.2 million copies and the last edition followed “Grand Theft Auto IV” as the second-fastest selling video game in history.

Most notably the words “A Hideo Kojima Game” are no longer displayed above the title at the top of the box.

It’s been no secret that Konami is planning on moving away from console gaming, and it’s been just as evident that Kojima Productions under the companies tenure is coming to an end, but a recent and major change to MGS V is still eye opening non the less.

The news was first picked up by NeoGaf and based on the screenshots provided by some users, the line “A Hideo Kojima Game” which is present on nearly all “Metal Gear” box arts in the past were removed in the “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain” box. Since the release of “Metal Gear Solid” in 1998, Kojima has been synonymous with high quality gameplay and cinematic beauty.

Publisher Konami and Hideo Kojima were said to have issues as they continued to work together, according to IGN. The Steam version of the game will be launched on September 15. Does it matter that “Metal Gear Solid V” may not feature the Kojima Productions name?
