Metro Atlanta’s jobless rate declines to 5 percent
Among cities with more than 100,000 people, the unemployment rate dropped in all except Aurora, where it was flat at 5.8 percent.

Almost all of Illinois’ metro areas saw their unemployment rates creep up in November compared to a year earlier, with the Chicago metro area alone in reporting an improvement. The national unemployment rate in November was 5 percent.
The Will County unemployment rate increased in November from the previous month – but was down from the same month a year ago. The local rate peaked in January and February 2010 at 10.6 percent, but has moved lower very slowly since.
Among all of Georgia’s metro areas, the lowest jobless rate is in Gainesville, northeast of Atlanta, at 4.2 percent, with the highest in the Flynt River community of Albany at 6.4 percent.
The rate declined as the number of employed residents increased by 1,868 to 375,352 from 373,484 in October.
The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that Metro Columbus’ unemployment rate for November was 6.3 percent, down two-tenths of a percentage point from 6.5 percent in October.
Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says it’s mostly temporary cuts for construction and manufacturing.
Last week the Labor Department reported a statewide rate of 5.6 percent and fewer than 4,000 new jobs in November. Over the year, claims were up by 373, or 11.7 percent, from 3,179 in November 2014.
Out of all Chicago-area counties, Grundy showed the most increase in its unemployment rate from October to November, growing from 5.3 percent to 5.7 percent.

Also, the number of initial claims for unemployment insurance rose by 164, or 14.6 percent, to 1,291 in November.
