Metro derailment delays could stretch into afternoon
Metro riders are encouraged to seek alternate transportation until the accident has been cleared. Requa said that the derailment, which affected three railcars, was “minor from the standpoint of damage, but [is] a major disruption” for the Metro system.

Metro riders should gear up for a tough morning commute after a Metro train with no passengers aboard derailed at the Smithsonian station Thursday morning.
Stessel says there were no injuries; only the operator of the train was on board.
Attention Blue, Orange, and Silver Line riders: Don’t even think about it. No seriously, don’t. Our helicopter crew reported that an Orange line train at the Vienna station had not left yet due to the derailment.
