He then did something that most people understand is obviously not smart.

The culprit grabbed a nearby fire extinguisher and managed to put out the blaze before fire crews arrived on the scene.

This is the unbelievable moment a man tried to kill a spider with a lighter – in a petrol station. According to CBS Detroit, the man was filling up his auto when he saw a spider on the gas tank and decided to try to burn it with his lighter. As Adams hit the emergency pump shut-off and called the fire department, the man pulled his vehicle out-of-the-way but he didn’t run from the melee he just caused, he sprung into action.

The apologetic man later admitted sparking the blaze because he is deathly afraid of spiders, the station reported. But his embarrassing mistake didn’t stop the man from coming back the next day as a customer. “All of a sudden I look out and I see flames”, employee Susan Adams told Fox 2.

The gas station’s insurance is expected to cover any damages, Fox 2 said.
