Young, who was acquired by the Mets in 2013 in a trade with the Rockies that sent Collin McHugh out west, hit. That means pinch-running, pinch-hitting if the Mets run out of bench players or want someone to drop down a bunt, or playing defense if someone comes out due to injury.
Assistant General Manager John Ricco spoke highly of the move, saying, “He’s a guy we know pretty well”.
Young played 35 games for the Braves this season, hitting.169.
With Gwinnett battling for an global League playoff berth, it would have been beneficial for the G-Braves to add a player.
The knock on Young Jr. has been his inability to consistently hit. He also stole seven bases.
“[Young] knew his role, and he got ready to play. Every day he came with a smile on his face and did his job”, Mets’ manager Terry Collins said.
