Mets All Stars Noah Syndergaard, Yoenis Cespedes Injured, Left Game Early
They’re now down 3-1, but Mets fans would surely trade a loss tonight for a positive outlook regarding the 23-year-old performer who has emerged as the ace of the NY staff – a group that’s encountered many setbacks this season. He threw 62/3 hitless innings in his first start back from the disabled list. “I don’t know how you teach young players now to break up a double play, because there’s no such thing as breaking up a double play”.

Syndergaard will probably play catch at the All-Star game. “He’s pretty sore today, ” Collins said Saturday.
Strasburg will keep company with his fellow All-Stars in San Diego, where he will partake in the festivities despite not pitching. The right-hander is from San Diego and plans to attend the game, the Nationals said. All of a sudden he said ‘My arm just got exhausted.’ He felt it and he knew it so he backed down, he wanted to back down.
Josh Bell then scored the go-ahead run from second base when first baseman Anthony Rizzo fielded Gregory Polanco’s ground ball and threw wildly to reliever Travis Wood covering first.
There was the no-hit streak, which extended a full 10 2/3 innings between two starts before Asdrubal Cabrera homered in the bottom of the fifth.
Cespedes, who leads the Mets with a.302 average, 21 homers and 53 RBIs, was voted one of the starting outfielders via the fan ballot. Brandon Nimmo followed with a single, but the Mets didn’t do much else until the eighth. He struck out nine in 5 2/3 innings.
Shawn Kelley gave up two hits to start the eighth, but Oliver Perez and Blake Treinen wriggled out of the jam before Jonathan Papelbon (18th save) threw a flawless ninth inning.
Washington (52-36) restored a four-game division lead over the Mets (47-39). Yoenis Cespedes left the game.
Kimbrel will undergo surgery to fix a medial meniscus tear in his left knee and is expected to miss three-to-six weeks. “It’s been a clean slide for over 100 years”, Werth said.
“To me, that’s a clean slide”.
“Instead of going out and trying to force themselves through a situation, we’re now – as we all know, the majority of injuries are caused by fatigue and the muscle are getting exhausted, and when that happens they need to be able to come over and say ‘Skip, I’m done”. So it was kind of just a weird pitch. Syndergaard declined to further address the issue Saturday, saying “I’m about to go work out”. Collins was hopeful of getting him past the 200-inning mark this season.
Said Collins: “I said “I don’t like the looks of this.’ And (Syndergaard) just said ‘I lost it” and he just said his arm is exhausted. So we took him out”.
Later, in the top of the fifth, starter Noah Syndergaard required a mound visit after earning the inning’s second out. After the most recent one on June 22, Syndergaard acknowledged he was pitching through a small bone spur but expressed little concern about it. “It just really all boils down to a little shoulder fatigue”.

After the pair of pitches, Terry Collins trotted out to the mound, and after a brief discussion Syndergaard was lifted – just a short while after the manager removed Yoenis Cespedes, who left after three innings with a strained right quadriceps.
