Mets burn Samardzija’s no-hit bid in Giants loss
The New York Mets star proved he has what it takes to be an ace when he tossed eight scoreless innings in a 2-0 win over the San Francisco Giants. He is the 10th active manager, including the Giants’ Bruce Bochy, to reach the milestone. The Mets (62-62) climbed back to.500, but they remain 4 1/2 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals (66-57) in the race for the second National League wild card.New York, 3-4 so far on a 10-game trip, and the Cardinals open a three-game series in St. Louis on Tuesday. The Giants (68-56) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (68-55) also duel in an important three-game set beginning Tuesday, with the Dodgers taking a half-game lead in the NL West into the series at Chavez Ravine.San Francisco now resides in the first wild-card spot, 1 1/2 games ahead of the Cardinals.Syndergaard and Giants right-hander Jeff Samardzija had dueling shutouts going until the seventh, an inning Samardzija began with a no-hitter.Curtis Granderson led off the inning with a double, ending the no-hit bid, before Cespedes launched a tremendous blast just inside the left field foul pole. The homer, Cespedes’ third in the past two games, landed above the left field bleachers.

Coming off two straight offense-heavy wins, the Giants went down relatively quietly against Bartolo Colon and the Mets.
Instead, Cespedes’ double in the first inning got the slumping Mets rolling.
The Giants dropped to 11-22 since the All-Star break.
“I’m not going to approach it like it’s any different”, said Moore, who has walked 17 in 23 innings as a Giant.
Curtis Granderson defiled Samardzija s no-hitter with a double and Yoenis Cespedes followed with a home run hit so high and so deep that it should be visible again in 2177 (portions of the Southern Hemisphere only). He allowed only one runner past second base and has an 0.79 ERA in his past five starts.
The outfielderd put together the eighth multi-home run game of his career and his first of the season.
Cespedes hit a 457-foot blast to left-center in the third and Moore would be done by the end of the fifth. “He got that one right there”. In the seventh, Cespedes hammered an 89-mph fastball from Jake Peavy for his 24th homer of the season.
“It doesn’t help when you have that kind of first inning”, Moore said. But he got back on track in dramatic fashion. After Cespedes’ home run, they fell eerily silent. Denard Span leads the way on 124 hits with 53 runs and 42 RBI.
The win was the 900 of Terry Collins’ career and the 456 with the Mets. Nuñez broke for second two pitches later – and was thrown out by catcher Rene Rivera. They are still looking for their first three-game winning streak.
He was hurt making a great running catch on a liner by Asdrubal Cabrera that went for a sacrifice fly, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. “We’re just being cautious, he said”. “We weren’t sure that was going to happen 10 days ago”.
“As I said it in some other interviews, everyone expects me to perform like I did last August”.

Since then, the Giants have the worst record and baseball and trail the Los Angeles Dodgers by half a game in the division. Bochy sat Posey for two straight games earlier in the week because of lower back tightness. After trying to play with a right quad strain for almost a month, the 15 days Cespedes spent on the disabled list have made a noticeable difference.
