Mets captain David Wright activated to play
He fielded his position well and ran the bases flawlessly. He was hitting.333/.371/.424 in eight games before his injury back in April, but that was a long time ago. Spinal stenosis can end, or at least shorten, careers and there was a lot of uncertainty surrounding whether Wright would return this season. That should be the final rehab game for Wright, who is expected to rejoin the Mets on Monday. Washington is set to get leadoff man Denard Span back on Tuesday, which could make the race far more interesting to watch down the stretch – the Nationals are 34-23 this season with Span in the lineup.

After plenty of rest and rehab, it was determined that Wright would return Monday.
This time around, the Mets did not struggle during Wright’s extended absence-they flourished, pushing their way into first place in the National League East. And unlike in 2013, Wright is coming back to a team that has playoff aspirations, something the third baseman-and the franchise-has not seen since 2006.
Wright last played on April 14. “That should answer it. He looks good, he’s feeling good, he’s swinging the bat good, but it’s the Florida State League, so I’m not putting any expectations on it”. 321 with one RBI and five walks in the minors, but also struck out six times. Terry Collins is hoping that Wright can get things going early and that would help getting him more playing time for the Mets.
Collins is adamant about not making Wright an everyday player from the start, which is the correct move given the severity of his injury and depth on the roster. The team has capable replacements in Juan Uribe and Daniel Murphy if Wright needs a day.
“I think the players are looking forward to it”, Mackanin said.
“He’ll have something to say about that”, Collins said about Wright.

“It’s a huge four games for us”, catcher Cameron Rupp said. We’ve got to be ready to hit. Maybe. He probably won’t play four in a row.
