He struck out 11 and didn’t walk a batter in the Mets’ 12-5 victory over the Reds.

The Mets will most likely face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS. But Trout paced back to the center field wall, just to the left of the 396 sign, before scaling it and reaching over to bring the home run back.

Justin Miller (3-2) pitched the top of the ninth for the win.

Jacob deGrom has been the Mets most consistent starter throughout most of the season. He shutdown the Cincinnati Reds through the first seven innings, including sitting down 16 straight hitters.

All the Mets needed to do was win, and that’s what they did – for once not collapsing when it all mattered most. He retired the final 11 batters he faced. The ones who make their presence felt and voices heard in every single city the Mets travel to. Brandon Phillips is 3-for-9 (.333) with two doubles. Despite the hard outing, Price maintained his AL ERA lead at 2.45.

David Wright has strike in five sequential online games. “At the end of the day, the players did it themselves”.

The team captain wasn’t sure he’d ever do this again, not with that last playoff appearance nine years ago. He didn’t get another hit until Thursday, when he singled in his first at-bat to start a three-run rally against Smith. Lucas Duda made Reds’ starter John Lamb pay, launching a grand slam (25) to give the Mets an early 4-0 lead.

The Rockies belted three homers in the fourth inning, Charlie Blackmon (17), Carlos Gonzalez (38) and Corey Dickerson (8).

Angels closer Huston Street then had to be helped off the field in obvious pain after finishing his follow-through on a pitch in the ninth inning. Earlier in the week, Matt Harvey approached his manager, Terry Collins, with a request to throw 100 pitches – agent Scott Boras and everyone else be darned – in what ultimately became the clincher.

NOTES: Mets INF Juan Uribe apparently aggravated the rib cage injury he suffered last Sunday, leaving his status for postseason play in question. Harvey strikes out nine and allows just four hits.
