Mets four, Rockies zero

Tyler Flowers added a solo shot to back Sale (10-7), who rebounded with a gem after allowing 14 earned runs and 18 hits in 10 1/3 innings while losing his previous two outings. Lagares led off the game with a double but didn’t move any further.

RF Carlos Gonzalez continued his scorching post-All-Star-break run Monday, when he hit a two-run homer to account for the Rockies’ offense in a 4-2 loss to the Mets.

“That’s a situation that he’s very accustomed to”.

“When Ike Davis got hurt [my] first year, Murph played first and was outstanding”, Collins said, thinking back to 2011.

“Felt nice to contribute on the field rather than a cheerleader like I was the last couple of weeks”. He went 5.0 innings, giving up three runs, striking out three and walking three.

“Rusin did a great job”, Weiss said.

That changed in the sixth. By the time Travis d’Arnaud singled to push Cuddyer to second in the sixth, the Mets were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

“I don’t think it’s too serious”, said Duda, a career.

It would also be excellent for the Rockies to take that first game, which is tonight at 7:10 p.m., because the next two are going to be a lot harder.

Colorado might have preferred a rainout against Harvey.

Harvey (11-7) walked none, struck out four and was in cruise control all night in lowering his overall ERA to 2.61.

The right-hander allowed only three infield singles until Ben Paulsen doubled down the right field line in the seventh.

J.D. Martinez doubled in the second for the Tigers’ only extra-base hit. Gray walked Ruben Tejada, his first of the game, then got the final two outs on just four pitches.

Recently acquired Eric O’Flaherty came in to shut the door.

Lagares finished 3-for-4. Cuddyer was 2-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base while second baseman Wilmer Flores had two hits. Harvey only struck out four but walked none, and he was clearly befuddling opposing batters all night.

Weiss and Gray are right, one guy alone isn’t going to turn around this franchise, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t unrealistically high expectations for Gray. “For the most part it was predetermined”.

RHP Chad Bettis (right elbow) threw three innings in a simulated game. Mets 3B David Wright (spinal stenosis) was scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Class A St. Lucie on Monday night. Everything has the Mets pulling away from Washington over the next week and a half, and if they can continue to play well at home, they’re in for some success.
