Mets’ Jacob deGrom likely to miss next start due to inflammation
DeGrom has allowed 16 runs on 31 hits for a 9.82 ERA over his last three starts. The club said there was no structural damage and he will take medication. Harvey also pitched 216 innings in 2015, the most by any pitcher in his first season back from Tommy John surgery.

Montero had a spot start for deGrom on Monday against the Marlins and tossed five scoreless innings, although Montero also walked six batters and threw 100 pitches.
Nice dream, but how do the Mets get there with a rotation that now consists of Syndergaard, 43-year-old Bartolo Colon and three guys who spent most of this season in the minor leagues?
“I’m pretty certain I’ll be back out there [this season]”, deGrom said.
Amid the rumors circulating around a potential injury to Jacob deGrom, the Mets released some cautiously positive news about another critical member of the rotation.
Hopefully, the newest addition to the team of right-handed pitcher Fernando Salas, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels last night, will help the Mets hold on to their leads. I got exhausted towards the end. There’s no even close to doing that this year. He is falling off the mound to the first-base side, leaving him imbalanced and his fastball erratic.
While on Friday Collins said he knew about the meeting between deGrom and the trainer (which he had claimed the night before he did not know about), the Mets manager wasn’t saying much about it. There’s no way they’re catching the Nationals in the National League East-Friday’s loss dropped them 10.5 games behind and gave the Nats a magic number of 18 with 28 games left-but the Mets remain just two games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the final wild-card spot. “That’s the thing we’ve been watching, that his command is not what it has been and that’s been the big issue”. It would be very easy for Collins to say when deGrom will next start or that he’s fine, or simply punt and play dumb.
deGrom, along with Syndergaard will have to gear up and find a way to pitch this team into October.
Mets: Cespedes and Cabrera didn’t start after it rained most of the afternoon.
Adding to the madness, Juan Lagares underwent surgery in August to fix a torn ligament in his thumb and may miss the rest of the season.

If nothing’s physically wrong with deGrom then it’s up to him to put the mental aspect of his game back together and he’ll have to do it sooner than later. Collins said after the game he was not aware of the meeting when asked about it by reporters.
