The Cincinnati Reds called up outfielder Scott Schebler from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday to fill the roster spot opened when right fielder Jay Bruce was traded to the New York Mets a day earlier. The deal had originally been slated to include former first-rounder Brandon Nimmo but the teams reworked the deal after medical concerns over a Mets prospect.

With the non-waiver trade deadline upon the Major League Baseball, teams have been scrambling to finalize deals and bring in players, with the hopes of standing out in the second half of the season.

Travis d’Arnaud led off the fifth with a homer before the Mets blew the game open in the seventh, when deGrom had one of his team’s six hits against Tanaka and Richard Bleier. Wotell, 19, was the Mets’ third-round pick in 2015.

First things first, the Mets offense looks a lot like it did at this point in time last season. Bruce will join a lineup that features previous year success story, Cespedes, and Curtis Granderson but their offense has been shaky.
Alderson was also thinking about next season when he made this move.
With an offense hitting a collective 0.206 with runners in scoring position, Bruce and his 0.360 average in such situations add some much-needed firepower. The Mets obtained Bruce from the Cincinnati Reds for y. As Law points out, they don’t have a true center fielder, and manager Terry Collins hasn’t been patient with young slugger Michael Conforto. He pitched to a 4.74 ERA over 43 2/3 innings and surrendered eight home runs, including five to lefties.

The Mets traded Niese to Pittsburgh last season for Neil Walker but he pitched his way out of the rotation with the Pirates. Bruce is shown in action last week.
Bastardo, who signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the Mets in January, was an unmitigated disaster in Queens.
The Oakland Athletics traded right fielder Josh Reddick and left-hander Rich Hill to the contending Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday for a trio of pitching prospects. Remember, Cespedes wasn’t a center fielder when the Mets acquired him a year ago, but he ended up starting there 39 times and 10 more times in the postseason.
