The Texas Rangers wrapped up a weird win early Tuesday, rallying after a rain delay of more than 3 1/2 hours in the ninth inning to beat NY 9-6 with maybe 100 fans left in the stands.
“I just started feeling a little discomfort in it this weekend in Atlanta”, Granderson said.
“He pounded the strike zone very well”, said outfielder Bryce Harper, who hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning.
The Washington Nationals said an MRI exam Stephen Strasburg underwent Monday morning confirmed their diagnosis that the pitcher has an upper back strain.
“Just everything that was involved: the conditions, you’re putting your athletes at risk, you’re having them sit down for 3 1/2 hours, you’re asking them to get loose again, you’ve got guys slipping all over the outfield”.
Though Steven Matz and Noah Syndergaard both will remain in the rotation with bone spurs, it’s not an ideal situation for the team, and one that will require constant monitoring moving forward.
Cubs 11, Reds 8: Kris Bryant became the first major leaguer to hit three homers and two doubles in a game, and Jake Arrieta added a solo shot in the ballpark where he threw a no-hitter in April, leading Chicago to a victory over Cincinnati. Ross got the next nine batters and didn’t allow another runner past first base. “I wasn’t going to take any chances”.
Cardinals right-hander Carlos Martinez (7-5, 3.02) tries to keep up a dominant stretch when St. Louis hosts Kansas City. Martin pitched a scoreless ninth Monday.
The Mets have dropped three straight overall and fell to 2-4 on their road trip with one game remaining in Washington.
Manager Dusty Baker said the MRI made him feel better and that he prayed and knew Strasburg was going to be all right.
Logan Varrett (3-4 4.14 ERA) gets the spot start for the Mets tonight and he has mainly been out of the bullpen this season.
