Mets’ Neil Walker is finished for season

Mets: Cespedes and Cabrera didn’t start after it rained most of the afternoon.

Until recently, deGrom was one of the top pitchers in all of baseball.

But now, I’m not sure what the market will be for Walker given that he’s 30 years old with a a clear history of back problems. Noah “Thor” Syndergaard is on the mound for the Mets.

DeGrom allowed three runs in five innings on Thursday night after having his start pushed back three days.

In an unforeseen development considering how pitching-blessed they were to open the season, the Mets already are using rookies Seth Lugo and Robert Gsellman in the rotation. There’s only a month left in the season, too, so just missing one or more starts is a big deal. The righty Wheeler will be more than two years removed from throwing his last pitch in the major leagues when he reports to spring training next year.

Thanks to the dreaded forearm tightness diagnosis, New York Mets struggling starter Jacob deGrom will miss his next scheduled start.

And some teams don’t forget that, Collins said, which means the Mets are still playing with a target on their backs.

“I don’t think rest was really the problem”, deGrom said.

deGrom underwent an examination on Friday, and despite no structural damage being found, the Mets are opting to err on the side of caution.

That’s true, but that’s not relevant, and that doesn’t change the fact that I’m feel bad for Walker because he’s done all the right things and seemingly deserved better. “Like I said, this was a very hard decision”. Of those, only Syndergaard is now healthy, and even he is dealing with a bone spur in his elbow. The Stetson product was expected to return Friday against Washington but was pushed up a day when it was determined that left-hander Steven Matz would not be able to take his turn. They’ll have to scramble, but then again they’ve been scrambling all season. The latest example came earlier this week with Neil Walker. Jay Bruce did hit a home run and his RBI single in the eighth inning. How about Terry Collins, how has he performed as the manager and is the grief he gets justified? “It’s comforting we did get a look at it and there is nothing wrong”. With the loss, the Mets fell two games behind the Cardinals for the second wild-card spot, with the Marlins another game back.

Not only that, but after this weekend, the Mets will have 25 games remaining.

Marlins: All-Star OF Marcell Ozuna was out of the lineup, a day after hurting his left wrist trying to make a diving catch and leaving the game. He’s lost each of his last three starts while not lasting longer than five innings and allowing at least three earned runs in all of those starts.
