Mets not skipping RHP Harvey’s next turn

This will be the fourth time this season Roark faces the Marlins, against whom he is 0-3 with an 8.40 ERA.

Harvey’s release point has been sort of all over the place this season, and there was talk earlier that he was struggling with mechanical issues. After giving up just 1.76 walks per 9 innings previous year Harvey is up to 2.79 in 2016. The sport can be so complex and so utterly arbitrary at times that it lends itself to an incredible array of interpretations, and our confidence in those interpretations depends largely on how deeply we’re willing to dig in behind them. This Tommy John dynamic carries with it unknowns.

“That kind of goes back to he had surgery and a year ago, he forced (216) innings”.

Strasburg kept paying dividends on the $175 million, seven-year contract he recently signed.

“This guy was at our sports fitness institute for six weeks”, Boras said. Harvey was also asked whether he wanted to make that next start or not. 096, ended Harvey’s night with his second of the inning, a two-run triple that made it 9-1. So the problem has to be in the 27-year-old’s noggin.

“Well”, Collins said before pausing again.

The Nationals were 6-for-12 off Harvey’s fastball Thursday. Off-speed pitches have hurt Harvey, too, such as on Daniel Murphy’s home run Thursday night off a curveball.

And the Harvey performance raised a chorus of questions about the next move with a young pitcher whose stuff was once considered to be among the very best in the game. “It’s not physical ability as much as it is location for Matt”. Anyone who has used him in Fantasy knows it.

“It’s May, there’s a lot of baseball to be played”, Strasburg said. With that out of the picture, the Mets would have to either skip Harvey or find a reason to put him on the disabled list if they decide he can’t go.

“There is a path, and it’s an individual path you have to take to regain your consistency”.

Strasburg, who had two more stints on the DL, produced a 1.90 ERA in his final 10 starts of 2015 and followed that with a 2.80 ERA in his first nine starts this season. “Everybody wants to focus on whether it was a good idea or a bad idea”.

Mets Manager Terry Collins thinks that Harvey could be suffering a hangover from last season’s workload. All of them had to extend because that’s what baseball is.

“We’re dealing with unknowns about why he’s not locating”. That’s why I say there are unknowns. Sometimes players just lose it with little to no explanation, and you have to account for that possibility. It haunted him in the offseason. “Matt’s ability is still there”.
