Mets ‘on the verge’ of acquiring Jay Bruce
Thank you for reading and relying on TulsaWorld.com for your news and information. Bruce leads the National League with 80 runs batted in, along with 25 home runs, part of a bounceback season that could vault him into MVP talks as a potential darkhorse, however that is unlikely.

“Over the past nine seasons, we couldn’t have asked for a better person to represent our team, our city and Major League Baseball, both on and off the field”, Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said in a statement.
NY also pursued All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy, traded by Milwaukee to Texas instead.
The Mets also reacquired lefty Jon Niese from Pittsburgh in exchange for Antonio Bastardo. They’ve also lost Matt Harvey to injury.
Coincidentally, Nimmo is the second Mets’ first-round pick to be traded at the deadline.
“I feel like myself again”, said Bruce, who dealt with a knee injury in 2014 that he believes might have impacted him past year as well.
Alderson did well not to give up too much in this trade. Chris Archer has pitched poorly (5-14, 4.42 ERA, 155 strikeouts) after finishing fifth in Cy Young voting previous year, but the Dodgers have shown interest in acquiring him.
He said he feels invigorated by being put in to the middle of a pennant race.
The Mets sit at 54-50, in third place in the National League East and 6.5 games behind the Washington Nationals. Outfield defense could sink the Mets in these final two months, but a lack of offense was the bigger problem they had to solve.
“I think it’s kind of like you see the balloon getting bigger, and then, all of a sudden, you poke a hole in it”, Bailey said.
If Jay Bruce had been there maybe things would have turned out differently. Hampered by a strained right quadriceps that’s been nagging him for weeks, Cespedes sat out Monday night for the second consecutive game. He did tell manager Terry Collins he could play center field, but Bruce has mainly been used as a right fielder in his career and for the time being will be playing in the No. 9 defensive slot.
It’s not a flawless fit. Bruce will now provide solid protection behind Yoenis Cespedes in the batting order, making NY an offensive threat.
“We would not have done the deal without the extra year of control”, Alderson said. He has a.875 OPS, the best of his career, while batting.265.
Bruce, who has a team option on his contract at $13 million for next season, will be insurance in the outfield in case Cespedes decides to sign elsewhere after this season. Wotell is said to still be included in the deal and is the second piece along with Herrera.
Cincinnati will try to reverse that trend on Tuesday behind right-hander Dan Straily who went from a long reliever to being among the Reds’ most dependable starters. They were able to work around that and agree to a deal just before the trade deadline.
Multiple teams have been linked to Bruce.

Dilson Herrera. [Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images] Herrera, 22, was viewed by many as a potential long-term solution at the keystone for the Mets. This season, he is hitting.276 with 13 homers and 55 RBIs at Triple-A Las Vegas. I think it’s probably hard for [Alderson] right now given the injury situation.
