Blevins suffered some bad luck when he took a comebacker off of his arm, which led to him breaking his arm.

Hopefully Blevins’ unfortunate misstep, just the latest in a series of funky sports injuries we’ve seen recently, doesn’t curb the enthusiasm of Mets fans about the rest of the season.

Blevins, whom the Mets acquired in a trade with the Nationals near the end of spring training for Matt den Dekker, appeared in seven games and did not allow an earned run.

Jerry Blevins on Monday night re-fractured a left forearm bone and is done for the season.

The New York Mets and Oakland Athletics agreed on a deal that sent 30 year old lefty pitcher Eric O’Flaherty to the Mets for a player to be named later. Spending most of his playing career in Atlanta where he went 13-7 with a 1.99 ERA in 295 games with the Braves in 5 seasons. He was brought in to be a lefty-on-lefty specialist, and his importance heightens after Blevins’ injury.

The loss of Blevins is a tough one for the Mets, as he had begun to start throwing, and would’ve been a big boost to the bullpen.
