New York Mets first-baseman Lucas Duda has now officially landed the disabled list with the nagging back issue plaguing him recently.

Duda pulled himself from Friday night’s game saying the back had tightened up on him. Duda is hitting. 246 with 21 homers and 56 RBIs in 405 at-bats this season. The Mets called up Dario Alvarez so the bench is a player short right now.

The Mets have won six of ten, and look to take the second game of their series in Colorado after taking the opener, 14-9, on Friday. I think it was obvious we needed to give it more time. While he was cleared to play last time, obviously there was still something in there that it reoccurred.

Collins said that Michael Cuddyer, Kelly Johnson and Daniel Murphy could all see time at first in Duda’s absence. “But the only way to solve these things is to rest them”. “So we decided this time to give it the whole 15 days and hopefully be back for a stretch run”.

“He’s a big piece”, Collins said.

Collins said the fact Wright is returning and the Mets have added established hitters such as Cespedes, Juan Uribe and Johnson doesn’t make the Duda injury much easier to accept. “We’re going to have to pick and choose our spots; who should get rest, who shouldn’t, who should play first who should play third, who should play second”. 242 with a. 310 on-base percentage and stole 68 bases. He began this season on the Braves’ roster but batted just.
