Jose Reyes made his first appearance in a major league game Tuesday night after his suspension and getting cut by the Rockies. Batting leadoff against the Miami Marlins, he quickly doffed his helmet to a cheering crowd – some fans stood and applauded – when he stepped to the plate in the first inning. Some were standing and applauding.
“They showed me a lot of love”, Reyes said about the warm reception from the Citi Field faithful. I don’t know what you want me to say about that. The 33-year-old infielder, a four-time All-Star shortstop who played for NY from 2003-11, re-signed with the team last month and hit. NY did their damage on solo homers off the bats of Yoenis Cespedes and Alejandro De Aza.
DeGrom allowed six hits and struck out seven, and worked out of some tough jams to hold the Marlins just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. The Marlins placed 1B Justin Bour (right ankle sprain) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 3, and purchased the contract of INF Don Kelly from Triple-A New Orleans.
