Mets slugger Cespedes hit by pitch, no bones broken

Yoenis Cespedes was removed from Wednesday’s game – and looked to be in a few serious pain – after taking a Justin De Fratus pitch off his left hand in the top of the third inning. Well, at least for now.

The Mets announced that X-rays for broken bones were negative.

DiComo reported Cespedes “dropped his bat and let out a yelp” after being struck by a pitch, which forced him to leave the game. Cespedes finished the outing with a walk and a run scored while he was replaced by Kirk Nieuwenhuis along the base path and in center field.

The NL East champion Mets said Cespedes was bruised on the middle and ring fingers.

There was no immediate report on his injury Wednesday night. Cespedes’ arrival from the Detroit Tigers at the non-waiver trade deadline helped transform the Mets’ moribund offense into a credible threat during the final two months of the regular season.

Numerous large contingent of Mets fans in attendance booed De Fratus.
