Mets still seeking big bat; Upton, CarGo, Gomez, Parra, Bruce work
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the New York Mets have also inquired to the Cincinnati Reds about Jay Bruce, and to the Detroit Tigers regarding Yoenis Cespedes, two hard hitting outfielders who may be on the move.

The New York Mets have been very active in the last week as the non-waiver trade deadline nears.
Do you think the New York Mets will make a transaction in order to acquire Carlos Gonzalez? “Sounds like Gomez-to-Mets deal will be tough to consummate unless Brewers drop their asking price”. Gomez has been one of the best all-around players in baseball the past 2.5 years and is still under control through 2016, so he’s an extremely valuable asset.
And while Mike Puma of the New York Post noted there has been “much recent talk” between the Mets and Brewers, it’s believed those discussions are more focused around Gomez’s teammate, Gerardo Parra, who would cost significantly less in a trade and might be more up Alderson’s alley. Gerardo Parra is another Brewers outfielder known to be on the trade block. 324 and has an OPS of.883; he’s under a reasonable salary for this season (just over $6 million); and he’ll be a free agent after 2015. The Orioles have been seen as another pursuer of Upton, and the Astros are among other teams to have checked in, as well.
Bruce also is of interest to the Mets, and sources suggest that at one point the Reds were showing interest in young pitcher Zack Wheeler, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, in a Bruce deal. Gonzalez may be another big contract they are looking to unload. That could open the door for the Mets.
