She added, “Mexicans vacillate between disbelief and making jokes about the escape to outright anger over the spectacle, the embarrassment, and showing the world the great weaknesses in their institutions”.
Five people have been killed and one Mexican marine wounded in a clash in the western state of Sinaloa.
Photos of the arms seized in the raid suggested that Guzman and his associates had a fearsome arsenal at the non-descript white house.
The elaborate, ventilated escape hatch built allegedly without the detection of authorities allowed Guzman to do what Mexican officials promised would never happen after his re-capture past year – slip out of one of the country’s most secure penitentiaries for the second time. And an assault rifle had a. 40 mm grenade launcher, and at least one grenade.
