Mexico issues warrant for extradition of escaped ‘El Chapo’

The Mexican Lawyer Basic’s workplace stated on Thursday had permitted an order to extradite to America drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, who escaped from jail by way of a tunnel earlier this month.

Mexico stated it acquired a D.J. extradition request on June 25, a few weeks earlier than Guzman’s breakout from a most safety jail not removed from Mexico City.

Aviles made the remarks at a press conference Wednesday while announcing activities meant to mark the 36th anniversary of Nicaragua’s armed forces.

The U.S. formally requested Chapo’s extradition about two and a half weeks before the drug lord escaped on July 11 through a 1-mile underground tunnel connecting his prison cell to an outside warehouse.

Local intelligence sources revealed that Guzman may be in the country under a fake name, the Listin Diario newspaper said.

The U.S. government is offering a reward of 5 million U.S. dollars for anyone with details leading to the capture of Guzman.

Some say President Enrique Peña Nieto wanted to limit U.S. involvement in Mexico’s drug war and felt having the United States try and possibly imprison Mexico’s top criminal would be a blow to the country’s ego and sovereignty.

Officially, Murillo Karam said Guzman would not be extradited until he finished serving his time in Mexico, a sentiment echoed by Mexico’s Ambassador Eduardo Medina-Mora to the United States.
