Mexico stun holders Germany 1-0 in World Cup opener

Germany can still advance in the tournament, but will have to score big victories in its upcoming matches against Sweden and South Korea. Neither of those teams advanced from the group stage. They hold 4 World Cup titles (1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014) and 3 European Championships (1972, 1980 and 1996). With the “Fubo Premier” bundle, you will get access to all four of the World Cup soccer TV channels in most markets.

With Jogi Low’s side seen by many as the favourites to leave Russian Federation with the trophy, the pressure is certainly on for the 2014 champions to complete that rarest of feats by retaining the famous cup. Julian Draxler was very poor, his decision-making either too slow or his final ball lacking the quality to penetrate the Mexico defence.

And if they finish runners-up to the Mexicans, Germany could be on course to face Brazil in a daunting second-round matchup. And its raucous supporters were rewarded with a 1-0 win over Germany that made history on several fronts. Mexico have had to deal with their own little scandal after eight players staged a late night party following a friendly against Scotland earlier this month, with the country’s football association throwing their support behind the players.

Mexico won their opening match at a World Cup for the fifth time in their past six tournaments (drawing the other). “Our team has experience of losses”.

“They’ve always done things like that”, 53-year-old fan Magdalena Martinez said Sunday of the partying Mexican players.

Germany came close to a spectacular equaliser in the 65th minute when two defenders linked up to have a shot at goal.

The El Tri dominated proceedings against their more fancied opponents and Hirving Lozano’s goal in the 35th minute proved to be the deciding factor in the Group F encounter.

President Enrique Pena Nieto joined the party, saying on Twitter: “Confirmed: Mexico competes and wins against the best in the world, Congratulations to @miseleccionmx!”

Federation Internationale de Football Association began taking action over the “puto” chant after being condemned for failing to do so during the last World Cup in Brazil. Both have got tremendous amount of pace, enjoy keeping possession and are wonderful crossers. Mexico repeatedly targeted the right flank to great effect with Lozano given the freedom to run the channels. Lozano will also have the responsibility of coming back, helping out his defence and preventing Kimmich from delivering a cross into the penalty area.

It was on another break that Hernandez came short and played a one-two with Carlos Vela, before playing the ball through to the marauding Lozano. Kimmich was fouled just outside the area and Toni Kroos nearly equalised with a sublime curling free-kick that was pushed onto the crossbar by Ochoa.
