Mexico vs. Uruguay: Score, Reaction from 2016 Copa America
Mexico’s first was an own-goal by Uruguay’s Alvaro Pereira four minutes into the match.

Mexico’s victory was made certain two minutes into added time, after Hector Herrera headed into an empty net.
But the setback inspired Mexico back into the game, and goals from the 37-year-old Marquez and Herrera put the nation top of Group C after the first round of fixtures.
In the earlier match, Venezuela defeated Jamaica 1-0 in a physical Copa America Centenario clash here on Sunday that saw the Reggae Boyz reduced to 10 men while coach Winfried Schaefer was expelled from the dugout.
Venezuelan forward Josef Martinez netted the lone goal of the match at the 15th minute to deny the Reggae Boyz an anticipated opening day win in the tourney.
“This evening during the pre-match ceremony, due to human error, we inadvertently played the incorrect National Anthem”, a statement said.
Uruguay, who had Matias Vecino dismissed on the stroke of halftime after a second booking for a foul on Jesus Corona, equalised in the 74th minute from the free kick awarded when Guardado was also shown a second yellow card.
“It won’t benefit us or them”, said Mexico defender Jorge Torres Nilo.
“We created a lot of chances and found an equaliser, but we couldn’t hold on”. Mexico were by far the better team but Uruguay’s quality is definitely there.
Mexico’s Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez eyes the ball during the Copa America Centenario tournament match against Uruguay in Glendale, Ariz., on June 5, 2016. Mexico couldn’t extend its lead, and Uruguay looked ripe to find a goal.
On the pitch, La Celeste fell to a 3-1 defeat, in a match where star striker Luis Suarez remained on the substitutes bench, still not fit after picking up an injury in Barcelona’s Copa del Rey final win last month.
But despite being at a man disadvantage, Uruguay went on the attack earlier in the second half and, after several near misses, levelled it at 1-1.
Mexico started the game brightly, as Andres Guardado fired in a cross looking for Hector Herrera streaking towards the goal.
Meanwhile, Uruguay will do the same against Venezuela.

Venezuela will look for a second straight win on Thursday when they face Uruguay in Philadelphia, while Jamaica will continue their quest for a victory against Mexico at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
