Peak flu season is here, but you still have time to get vaccinated.

A tragedy is being reported in Oakland County where health officials say a school aged child has died from flu complications.
He added that the health district recently received an advisory from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention based in Atlanta that flu activity is starting to pick up. Nashville’s Metro Public Health Department began offering flu vaccine at no cost to patients February 8th.
“However, if someone starts having influenza-like symptoms and they go to the doctor within 48 hours, they might be prescribed an anti-viral medication”, he said.
According the the CDC, flu levels in Kentucky indicate outbreak risks are higher.
When asked about the latest case on Monday by the Irish News, the Public Health Agency (PHA) and Southern health trust said it was not their policy to confirm individual causes of death. The virus also can be contracted by touching a surface or object containing the flu virus and then touching their eyes, nose or mouth.
“More fruits and veggies can reinforce your immunities and might help you recover faster if you do get infected”, Yoakum said. Flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older, and is especially important for infants, young children, pregnant women, adults over age 50 and for those with chronic medical conditions.
